We believe supporting the marketplace is the quickest way to slow down the effects of anthropogenic activities on nature. elementor - v3.18.0 - 20-12-2023 *\/\n.elementor-heading-title{padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1}.elementor-widget-heading .elementor-heading-title[class*=elementor-size-]>a{color:inherit;font-size:inherit;line-height:inherit}.elementor-widget-heading .elementor-heading-title.elementor-size-small{font-size:15px}.elementor-widget-heading .elementor-heading-title.elementor-size-medium{font-size:19px}.elementor-widget-heading .elementor-heading-title.elementor-size-large{font-size:29px}.elementor-widget-heading .elementor-heading-title.elementor-size-xl{font-size:39px}.elementor-widget-heading .elementor-heading-title.elementor-size-xxl{font-size:59px}<\/style><h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Carbon Removals and Carbon Sinks Protection<\/h4>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8785bb9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8785bb9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The world is learning how to capture carbon mainly in the form of CO2 from the atmosphere and sequester it back into the <a href=\"https:\/\/education.nationalgeographic.org\/resource\/lithosphere\/\">lithosphere.<\/a> Many ways to do this are under development and need to scale quickly:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Direct Air Capture (DAC):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Artificial air-sucking systems (fans) pump environmental air through filters to absorb CO2 and consequently, reduce it in the atmosphere<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Power generation using organic waste (biomass) while sorting the CO2 from flue gas and mainly storing it in a permanently stable form underground &#8211; sandstone, fossil-fuel depleted \u200breservoir, or volcanic geological formations\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Ocean Fertilization:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Addition of nutrients like iron, phosphorus, and nitrogen compounds to boost phytoplankton activities and growth (bloom) by capturing CO2 dissolved or underlying the seawater for its photosynthesis<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Ocean Alkalinization:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> CO2 in seawater as carbonate turns it acidic which requires interventions like adding alkalis or intervention of electrochemical reactions to remove the excessive CO2 in the ocean<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><b>Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Specific minerals like silicates react naturally with CO2 carried by rain (weathering). Such a phenomenon enables the assimilation of CO2 by the rock. Hence, dispersing olivine rock powders into agricultural soils, for example, enhances CO2 sequestration<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Biochar:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Thermochemical conversion of biomass as crop residues &#8211; lignocellulosic waste into a porous carbon soil amendment. Its stability avoids natural decaying and consequent carbon emissions such as CO2<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Improved Soil Biota:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Techniques like <a href=\"https:\/\/calrecycle.ca.gov\/organics\/worms\/wormfact\/#02\">vermicomposting<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/sciweb.nybg.org\/science2\/hcol\/mycorrhizae.asp.html#:~:text=Mycorrhizae%20are%20symbiotic%20relationships%20that,with%20carbohydrates%20formed%20from%20photosynthesis\">mycorrhizal fungi<\/a> or even inoculation of bioengineered microorganisms into the soil enable it to sequester more carbon<\/span><\/li><li><b>Woody Biomass Burial:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Waste biomass that eventually would decay and emit more GHGs can be stored underground or in ocean anoxic basins with the addition of some procedures to secure its permanent inactivity and storage<\/span><\/li><li><b>Reforestation\/Afforestation and Endangered Ecosystems Conservation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Protection or application of intervention to save ecosystems from degradation and allow them to continue a perfect balance of matter &#8211; notably as carbon-based. Besides forests, it also includes conservation of considered mangroves, peatlands, coral reefs, \u00a0and the like. That can be avoided if we can recycle the waste and use it to foster a circular economy rather than extract more natural resources. This can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create new carbon-based products.<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first stage of CCU is the process called sorption. This means that the CO2 is attracted to and sticks to another material, like a sponge. The second phase is the chemical reactions including captured CO2. [6]<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clean hydrogen is a key factor for the global decarbonization efforts and technology development and scale-up are crucial to meet industrial demand. livelihood, receive equitable treatment.<\/p><p>AofV is working with Go Green on a project with Hago Energetics to convert the methane in biogas to hydrogen.\u00a0 Many farmers in Malawi collect the
